Popular for the hot springs and scenic views of the Himalayan mountains, Kheerganga is situated in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Located about 22 km away from the pilgrimage town of Manikaran, trekking through the dense forests and a bath in its hot springs are a refreshing experience.
Kheerganga or Kheer Ganga as the name suggest is Ganga River ( the Ganges River) as White as a Kheer (an Indian sweet dish made from milk and Rice) The name Kheerganga came due to the milky waters of the river flowing in all its vastness and its streams flowing into Parvati valley from all sides of the mountain.
Things to do in Kheerganga
Trek to Kheerganga:-The trek starts from Barshaini, and the total trek distance is 12-13 km and it takes around 6-7 hours to reach the topmost point of Kheerganga.
Camping in Kheerganga:- Tourist stay in Kheerganga has been banned, which means all those camps and makeshift huts will have to be dismantled and removed from the Kheerganga Top Yes, tourist can pitch their tents in Kheerganga but for that, you have to take permission from forest department.
Visit Kheerganga hot spring:-It is said that Kartik, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati lived here in Kheerganga. Kartik was so mesmerised with the place and the mountains that he meditated here for thousand of years.
