Founded by the British between 1815 and 1847.In 1849, Dharamshala originated as an army subsidiary cantonment for troops stationed at Kangra and adopted its name from an old Hindu sanctuary, called ‘Dharamshala’. .

Things to Do in Dharamshala


Paragliding:-Paragliding in Indrunag is done from an altitude of about 5,200 feet while that from Bir-Billing is done from a height of 9,000 feet; the best months for paragliding are January to June. Paragliding provides an excellent view of Kangra valley, the Shivalik and Dhauladhar ranger, the tea gardens and Pong Dam.


Triund Trek:-Triund trek is one of the most popular treks to go over a weekend from Delhi and Chandigarh. It is perhaps the easiest Himalayan trek to do on your own. With breathtaking views of the Kangra valley and the snow covered Dhauladhar ranges, it is also very picturesque.


Kareri trek:-The Kareri Lake trek, located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, takes you through lush sub-tropical pine forests. The forests are filled with chir and chilgoza pines, interspersed with broad-leaf species.


Camping :-Camping in Triund is a popular activity for nature and adventure enthusiasts. The location offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, making it a great place to set up a tent and spend the night under the stars.
